The WIML Training, Assessment and Re-assessment course program run the courses from Canton Fribourg in Switzerland, based in and around the Schwarzsee ski area. We would recommend looking for accommodation options in the Schwarzsee ski area or the Plaffeien area. We will be in touch regarding the exact meeting point for each course a few days before the start date.
This course covers the skills required to lead and manage a group under your supervision in winter in the ‘middle mountain’ (rolling Nordic type terrain) environment. To attend this course you must have already completed your IML Summer award.

During the week the aim is to help develop your knowledge of leadership and group management skills when operating with groups on snow covered terrain with snowshoes. Before you book onto an International Mountain Leader Winter training course, make sure you have done the following:

Winter IML Training Program
The program is a general guideline and will be influenced by weather and hill conditions. Common themes that will support the week are leadership, snow and avalanche conditions, flora and fauna.
Avalanche Awareness E-Learning
Prior to your course, please watch Glenmore Lodge’s Avalanche Awareness lecture, then take a look at the free Be Avalanche Aware E-learning course, which introduces you to this important tool for all winter mountain users. It outlines the decision-making process and the fundamental considerations of assessing avalanche hazards in the winter mountains.
