DETAILED INFO

AIMS

Over the two days we’ll aim to give you a taste of what Scottish sea kayaking is all about.

We’ll help you develop the skills to manoeuvre your sea kayak, building your confidence and control. We’ll also focus on tidal planning, weather forecasting, safety and rescue. At the end of the two days we hope you’ll feel confident to plan and paddle your own trips on fair weather days.

PRE-REQUISITES

No previous experience required.

To get the most out of this course then you’ll be confident in and around water, but there’s no requirement to have paddled a kayak before.

IS IT FOR ME?

This course is aimed at anybody who has been tempted by those stunning images of sea kayaking on our coast and wants to experience them first hand. If you want two days with plenty of opportunity to learn to paddle a sea kayak, plus the skills to safely plan and paddle your own fair weather journeys, then this is the course for you.

CONTENT

Meeting your instructor on the first morning provides an opportunity to discuss people’s experience and aspirations, which along with the weather forecast will enable us to plan the day’s activity with you.

On the first day we could start off in our indoor kayak pool to look at capsize drills and gain confidence in the kayaks or we could head straight to a local loch to introduce personal paddling skills and practice rescues.

Once off the water we’ll take a look at planning sea kayak journeys. This will help prepare for the second day when (weather permitting) we’ll head to a section of the Moray coast. This will allow us to do a day journey, and continue to develop your paddling skills en route. On the course we are able to supply all the maps, charts, pilots and other tidal planning resources you may need. If you have your own, feel free to bring them along.
