Perfect for Stand Up Paddlers wanting to develop their skills in a range of environments from sheltered water, open water and moving water.
Building on existing skills paddling on lochs, rivers or the sea, the aim is to develop a solid foundation of techniques for these environments, turning you into an independent paddler. Our coaches will help develop your paddling skills to increase efficiency as well as cope with wind or rougher conditions, all in a variety of environments. Equipment, journeying skills, safety and rescue are all covered throughout the week.
This course will provide the paddler with plenty of experience of paddling a variety of environments. This will involve going to sheltered water, open water and moving water. We will look at safety and rescue skills throughout the week. All this will take place on daily journeys and should leave you more independent in your paddling and with skills to Stand Up Paddleboard intermediate water.
3 to 5 days on a Stand Up Paddleboard
This course is geared for the Stand Up Paddleboarder who is starting to get to grips with open and moving water paddling. To get the most out of this course then you should have had experience on sheltered and open water lochs in slightly windier conditions, with 3 to 5 days Stand Up Paddleboading experience. In addition to this to be looking forward to consolidating these skills and developing your ability and knowledge to Stand Up Paddleboard in more challenging environments. So if you want a week with plenty of opportunity to paddle on sheltered, open and moving water in spectacular locations, and are keen to develop in that environment, then this is the course for you.
Day one we will help you sort out any boards or paddling gear you need to borrow from us, and then we will head off to a local loch or river. This could well be a section of the Spey that will give a good warm up day and enable us to introduce some coaching and safe journeying themes. For the rest of the week we will paddle the lochs, rivers and coastline that offer us the best water and conditions that are at the appropriate grade for the group. This will include plenty of variety of environments , it could include the following rivers: Tay, Spey and Ness, lochs: Morlich, Insh, and Laggan and the moray coastline.
Whilst on these journeys we will be able to spend time coaching and developing your personal paddling, there may be an opportunity for video coaching as well. We will be looking at additional Stand Up paddleboard specific skills to help you leave the course feeling confident to safely paddle in similar environments with friends. As part of this safety and rescue is essential and we will look at a variety of aspects of this during the week.
