Overview

This course covers the skills needed to safely paddle grade 2(3) rivers and to deal with problems if they arise.

It’s also a pre-requisite for White Water Leader, Canoe White Water Leader and Advanced White Water Safety and Rescue Training.

AIMS

This 2 day training course aims to set paddlers up to have safe days out on grade 2(3). It also covers kit, planning, chase boating, rescuing swimmers, reuniting them with their kit, throwlines and use of a chest harness.

Confident swimming in your paddling gear

If you want the skills to avoid and to deal with common problems on grade 2(3) rivers then this 2 day course is the one for you.

CONTENT

This two-day course trains kayakers, open boaters and stand up paddleboarders to avoid and deal with problems on grade 2(3) white water. Please let us know what craft you intend to paddle in advance of the course.

Training will take place on rivers up to grade 2(3). We’ll look at river running, equipment and the core principles that give us safe, fun days out on the water. We’ll take a look at what to do if things go wrong including chase boating, swimming rapids, throwlines, reach rescues and boat based rescues. We’ll also cover wading and the use of the chest harness an your buoyancy aid. Finally we’ll use scenarios to put what you’ve learnt into practice.

This course is useful for all white water paddlers. It’s also a pre-requisite for BC White Water Leader, BC Canoe White Water Leader and BC Advanced White Water Safety and Rescue Training.
