Overview
This new one day course replaces FSRT. It covers the techniques to solve common problems on flat water. We’ll spend time on (and in) the water paddling canoes, kayaks, SUPs and sit-on-tops. The course is relevant to any paddler and it’s a pre-requisite for Paddlesport Instructor.

If you want to be able to deal with common problems on flat water, this one day course is the one for you.
CONTENT
This one day course aims to provide paddlers with key safety and rescue skills needed on flat water. We’ll learn to operate safely and to deal with common problems. The course is designed for all paddlers irrespective of craft. You’ll be performing rescues from your choice of craft, but being rescued from a range of canoe, kayak, sit-on-top and SUP
We’ll spend the day on the pond or a local loch. It is a rescue course, so please come prepared to spend most of the day wet.
We’ll look at equipment, venue choice, and the risks associated with paddling. We’ll work our way through a range of rescues; getting people and kit back to shore, getting them back afloat in deep water, towing and self-rescues. We’ll look at techniques to deal with heavy swamped boats that minimize the impact on our bodies.

This course is a pre-requisite for BC Paddlesport Instructor, but the principles apply to all paddlers.
