A beautiful sea kayak journey taking in the coastlines of the Islands of Raasay and Rona.
With this course you will journey over 5 days developing the essential skills to plan and undertake your own multi day sea kayak expeditions. Self-sufficient wild camping, abundant wildlife, incredible scenery and a great introduction to longer sea kayak expeditions.
Over the expedition we’ll have the opportunity to delve further into navigation, tides, essential equipment, paddling a loaded sea kayak, group and personal management and wellbeing, decision making skills, environmental identification or just to savour the Scottish coastline and the slower pace of life that multi-day sea kayak trips provide.
Either way you’ll leave inspired to seek out more sea kayak adventures.
This is a non-residential course, as we will be camping between days.
To introduce you to the adventure and pleasure of expedition sea kayaking
10 days sea kayaking in winds up to Force 4. Days to include some longer journeys up to 6 hrs duration.
If you are looking for a classic Scottish introduction to a multi-day sea kayak expedition, then this is for you.
On day 1 we will organise ourselves at Glenmore Lodge then over to Skye. On our way we’ll stop off at a supermarket to buy food for the trip.
We’ll aim to find a journey that balances the aspirations of the group and the forecast conditions.
During the expedition, we will make time to look at personal paddling skills, noticing the differences in handling we find when we are in loaded boats and developing our tactics to deal with any conditions we find. We could look at navigation, keeping the group together, dealing with incidents and all the myriad decisions that make for a great trip. We should find time to consider the history of the islands, through the clearances and on to Calum’s road. Once we arrive at our camp spot for the night, we will think about ways of securing boats and the practicalities of drying gear and being comfortable. When we set off the following morning, we’ll make sure we leave our overnight spot just as we found it. On day 5 we’ll return to the lodge.
On this expedition we’ll be wild camping away from Glenmore Lodge.
We will stop to buy expedition food en-route. Food is not included within the trip price, however this does give you freedom to meet your individual dietary needs. Please see sample menu document below
There is an option to meet at Sconser on Monday afternoon.
