Overview

If you’re working towards your Advanced White Water Leader and want to develop your skills then this optional training course is the one for you.

This course is all about meeting your development needs. We’ll look at the paddling, leadership and rescue skills required to lead groups on grade 4 rivers.

We’ll make sure you’ll leave the course with a detailed picture of the assessment standard, a development plan to get you to that level and a firm grasp of what the assessment will involve.

AIMS

To help you work towards your BCAB White Water Leader, which qualifies you to lead white water kayaks or OC1s on grade 4 rivers.

PRE-REQUISITES

Experience of paddling grade 3(4) rivers.

CONTENT

On this optional training course, we’ll look at all the skills required to lead a group of white water kayak (or OC1) paddlers on grade 4 rivers. Including different ways to support or challenge paddlers, when and how to involve them in the decision making and how to use the group efficiently to protect rapids.

In addition we’ll look at the core skills of driving the boat, gaining and losing momentum, crossing flow, choosing lines, boofs and flares. We’ll also take a look at dealing with incidents and rescues.
