Overview
If you’re working towards your British Canoeing Advanced Canoe White Water Leader and want to develop your skills then this optional training course is the one for you.
This course is all about meeting your development needs. We’ll look at the paddling, leadership and rescue skills required to lead groups of open canoeists on grade 3(4) rivers.
We’ll make sure you’ll leave the course with a detailed picture of the assessment standard, a development plan to get you to that level and a firm grasp of what the assessment will involve.

To help you work towards your British Canoeing Advanced Canoe White Water Leader, which qualifies you to lead open canoes on grade 3(4) rivers.
PRE-REQUISITES
Experience paddling open canoes on grade 3 rapids.

CONTENT
We’ll look at all the skills required to lead groups of open canoeists on grade 3(4) rivers. This is likely to involve lining, tracking and portaging as well as paddling. We’ll cover different ways to support or challenge paddlers, to involve them in the decision making, where to position ourselves and how to use the group to protect grade 3 rapids.
We’ll also take a look at dealing with incidents and rescues.
