Overview
The assessment examines the skills of leading groups on ski/split-board tours in the UK Backcountry, not including technical environments requiring the use of mountaineering equipment (axe; crampons; rope). Holders of this award will be able to use backcountry terrain within the UK to offer tours for both skiers and riders.

PRE-REQUISITES
Further to your Mountain Snowsports Leader Performance and Leadership Training, your tutor will need to see evidence of a further 20 Quality Mountain Days Ski Touring and 10 Steeper descents requiring Ski & Mountaineering techniques. This will be signed and verified by the tutor.
In addition to the above before licensing candidates must also demonstrate evidence of a valid first aid certificate, child protection, enhanced DBS for SSE and SSW licensing, the lower award.
IS IT FOR ME?
The training will be delivered within the mountains of the Scottish Highlands and will be comprised of a mix of theoretical and practical training. Candidates should attend with a good level of fitness and technique so that they can complete back-to-back day tours within the UK Mountains.
CONTENT
Over the course of the 3-day assessment we will aim to cover as many areas of the syllabus as possible, conditions and weather dependent. Assessments are undertaken as a holistic examination of your practical skills as well as your knowledge, this means that all aspects of leadership and planning are assessed continually during the 3 days. The main underlying themes will be ski/board performance and technique, navigational foundation skills, avalanche awareness and avoidance knowledge and skills, leadership styles, strategies and responsibilities.
