The Winter IML Training, Assessment and Re-assessment course program run the courses from Canton Fribourg in Switzerland, based in and around the Schwarzsee ski area. We would recommend looking for accommodation options in the Schwarzsee ski area or the Plaffeien area. We will be in touch regarding the exact meeting point for each course a few days before the start date.
This course covers the skills required to lead and manage a group under your supervision in winter in the ‘middle mountain’ (rolling Nordic type terrain) environment. To attend this course you must have passed the IML Summer training course.
Your course can be booked online by making payment in full, or by calling the booking office on 01479 861256 to pay a deposit (25%) * . We recommend purchasing travel insurance at this stage.
Map SwitzerlandMobility (schweizmobil.ch) – Swisstopo App recommended.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a non-residential course. When booking online please do not try to book accommodation at Glenmore Lodge alongside your course place.
You should be familiar with the syllabus and guidance notes contained in the International Mountain Leader Award Handbook provided by MTUK. The program is viewed in conjunction with the MTS Guidance Notes & Prospectus and Syllabus. Although the course is divided, with certain days concentrating on specific aspects, the assessment looks at your overall performance over 5 days. It is not viewed as a modular type of assessment.
Planning exercise: Please plan a 3-day intro to snow shoe course.
To include:
• Each day’s route (detailed mapping) and teaching plan
• Weather and avalanche forecasts
You are free to choose how you present this e.g. paper copy or electronically.
