This 2 day Discover Rock climbing is perfect for someone who is interested in taking up climbing, or wants to experience what is on offer outside the climbing wall. You will have the chance to try out different types of climbing and rock types.

AIMS
We’ll help you to develop a solid foundation in core rock climbing techniques, whilst climbing a variety of single pitch rock climbs, such that you will be a competent and self reliant second.
IS IT FOR ME?
This is ideal for beginners and those who are active indoor wall climbers but have little experience of climbing outside. You don’t have to have any previous experience of rock climbing.
CONTENT
Meeting your instructor on the first morning provides an opportunity to discuss you and the other participants experience and aspirations, enabling the instructor to plan the program around the main topics to be covered. These are:
- Developing participant’s fundamental movement skills on a variety of rock types.
- Experience the different disciplines of rock climbing, such as bouldering, sport or trad climbing.
- How to interpret a climbing guidebook and choose a climb.
- Develop ability to second rock climbs.
- Belaying both leader and second.
- Descending from rock climbs by abseiling using self-protection methods.

WHAT WILL I NEED
Glenmore Lodge has a large, and very comprehensive store of up to date clothing and equipment. Although we can supply all the equipment you will need, you’re welcome to bring your own gear if you have it (Your instructor will of course want to check that personal equipment is appropriate for the activity).
YOU WILL NEED (Glenmore Lodge can provide if required)
- Waterproof jackets and trouser
- Insulated synthetic jacket
- Appropriate footwear for the attended course
- Helmet
- 40lt rucksack
- Climbing harnesses and rock shoes
- All technical climbing hardware & equipment
EQUIPMENT YOU NEED TO BRING WHICH WE DO NOT HAVE IN THE STORES
