Overview

Based out of Inchree on the West Coast of Scotland, this is the perfect 2 days for sea kayakers who’d like to develop their skills in more challenging environments.

AIMS

Our base on the west coast gives us excellent access to tidal areas and a good chance of finding wind and swell.

We’ll focus on developing your skills to paddle in those conditions as well as covering kit, tidal planning, navigation and rescues.

We’ll meet up at 0900 on Saturday morning at Inchree Chalets.

PRE-REQUISITES

10 days sea paddling in a variety of locations, including some rougher open water in force 4 or 5 conditions.

Being able to roll is not essential on this course as long as you’re happy being rescued!

IS IT FOR ME?

This course is geared towards sea kayakers who want to start planning and paddling more committing journeys.

If you want a weekend focused on developing your sea kayaking skills and confidence in wind and tide then this is the course for you.

CONTENT

This non-residential course is based out of Inchree, south of Fort William. We’ll plan to meet up at 0900 outside Inchree cabins on the Saturday morning.

Our West Coast location puts us within easy striking distance of Falls of Lora, Creran Narrows, Lismore, and Arisaig.

Over the two paddling days we’ll look at personal paddling and rescues in lumpier waters. We’ll also spend some time on tidal planning, interpreting weather forecasts and navigation.

This course is non-residential. There’s a wide selection of accommodation available locally, including at Inchree chalets where the course will be based.

We recommend that you take out travel insurance to cover your accommodation costs in the unlikely event of the course being cancelled.

NEED TO KNOW

WHAT WILL I NEED

Glenmore Lodge has a large store of clothing and equipment. You’re very welcome to use your own paddling equipment and just pick and choose odd items from our store. Your instructor will want to make sure your personal equipment is appropriate for the paddling we’re planning to do.
