Wind & Wave

Adventure LEVEL | 2 day(s) | Ratio 1:6

Overview

Wind and waves are two of the main challenges we have to deal with on open water. This group is suitable for both solo and tandem paddlers.

Alongside your daytime paddling, there’ll be evening drop-in workshops, after-dinner talks, evening shenanigans from our friends at Hou Canoes, the Lochain Bar and a room full of musical instruments if anyone fancies a folk session.

You must also book your accommodation by selecting the accommodation option on the previous event page.  Please note that any bookings made without accommodation will be contacted by our Bookings team in due course.

DETAILED INFO

IS IT FOR ME?

To join this group, you’ll be used to paddling your canoe on open water and probably have experienced some frustration when the wind picks up and the canoe develops a mind of its own! We’ll be paddling on local lochs. In a perfect world we’d get a beautiful steady force 3-5 on the loch with some nice sheltered bays to chat in on both days. In practice, the wind will do what it does and we’ll make a plan on the Saturday morning to make the most of the weather!

CONTENT

The details are very much up to you, your volunteer coach, and the weather.

Over the weekend you could take a look at:

Trim – move your bags, yourself, or both? Also why is there a great big piece of ash just where you want to sit?

Getting more out of our paddle strokes

  • Minibus pick-up from Aviemore Station on Friday afternoon/evening
  • Minibus drop-off at Aviemore Station on Sunday evening
  • Around 20 open canoes available to borrow for the weekend – please contact us at [email protected] in advance of the symposium if you’d like to borrow a canoe.
  • Minibus and trailer transport for most sessions

If you’re looking for, or able to offer a lift to and from the symposium then please email us at [email protected] with your phone number and we’ll add it to our Lift Share WhatsApp.
