Find Out MoreCanoeing isn’t just about the paddle. This group will be looking at the traditional journeying skills of poling, lining, tracking, and sailing (with doubtless a little bit of paddling thrown in!). We’ll aim to journey on both loch and river working with and against the wind and the flow.
Alongside your daytime paddling, there’ll be evening drop-in workshops, after-dinner talks, evening shenanigans from our friends at Hou Canoes, the Lochain Bar and a room full of musical instruments if anyone fancies a folk session.
You must also book your accommodation by selecting the accommodation option on the previous event page. Please note that any bookings made without accommodation will be contacted by our Bookings team in due course.
To join this group, you’ll be wanting to improve your traditional journeying skills. Weather permitting, we’ll string together some journeys using both loch and river (up to grade 2). Loch Insh and the river Spey, Loch Laggan and the river Pattack, or Loch Tay and the river Tay are likely venues.
The details are very much up to you, your volunteer coach, and the weather.
Over the weekend, you could take a look at:
Sailing
Poling
Tracking
Lining
Portaging
Making efficient transitions
Choosing the right technique for the right occasion
