If you’ve ever looked on as paddlers in short, bulbous canoes full of airbags fired up rapids that would eat your trad boat for breakfast, or if you’re already a convert, then this is the group for you. We’ll provide you with an OC1 and introduce you to these wonderful boats.
Alongside your daytime paddling, there’ll be evening drop-in workshops, after-dinner talks, evening shenanigans from our friends at Hou Canoes, the Lochain Bar and a room full of musical instruments if anyone fancies a folk session.
You must also book your accommodation by selecting the accommodation option on the previous event page. Please note that any bookings made without accommodation will be contacted by our Bookings team in due course.
To get the most out of this option, you’ll be an experienced white water canoeist (or kayaker) who understands rivers and wants to find out what OC1 is all about, or you’re already an OC1 paddler. The Scottish weather and river levels are always changing, but we’ll be looking to spend the first day getting to know the craft on some mellow flow. On the second day we’ll look to move those skills onto a grade 2/3 section of river.
The details are very much up to you, your volunteer coach, the river levels, and the weather.
Over the weekend we could take a look at:
Outfitting the boat
Driving the boat
Steering at the front
Using edge transfer
Working with the river – can we get the flow to do the work for us?
…or just enjoy discovering a new craft in a beautiful place!
Instruction
In course transport
Use of kit (please bring as much of your own as you’re able)
Packed lunch and afternoon tea & cake each course day
You must also book your accommodation:
This option is priced as part of a bundle to be booked alongside accommodation. All bookings made here will be subject to confirmation that accommodation has been added. Please add this course to your rucksack and then head over to the event page to select your accommodation option.
We’d like to make this the greenest canoe symposium yet. Unless you live in the highlands, you’ll need to travel a long way to get to us. We’re offering;
If you’re looking for, or able to offer a lift to and from the symposium then please email us at [email protected] with your phone number and we’ll add it to our Lift Share WhatsApp.
You don’t need your own OC1 to join this group, we’ll be able to provide them.
Please bring as much of your own kit as you can. Our stores will be open over the weekend if you need to borrow the odd item or want to try out some new equipment.
Can't find exactly what you are looking for? We are happy to create it for you. You can hire one of our instructors or guides from as little as £280 a day, including any equipment. If you’re a group, all of our courses are available on a date that suits you or if you would prefer we can tailor a course to your requirements. Simply get in touch to discuss your requirements.
