Discovering White Water

Adventure LEVEL | 2 day(s) | Ratio 1:6

Overview

This group is looking to enjoy being out on a local river and developing white water skills. Both solo paddlers and tandem pairs are welcome. The venues will depend on river levels, but we’ll most likely journey down some relaxed grade 1-2 sections of the Spey.

Alongside your daytime paddling, there’ll be evening drop-in workshops, after-dinner talks, evening shenanigans from our friends at Hou Canoes, the Lochain Bar and a room full of musical instruments if anyone fancies a folk session.

You must also book your accommodation by selecting the accommodation option on the previous event page.  Please note that any bookings made without accommodation will be contacted by our Bookings team in due course.

DETAILED INFO

IS IT FOR ME?

The Scottish weather and river levels are always changing, but we’ll be looking to find some gentle grade 1-2 sections of river.

If you’re happy on mellow rivers, or if you can already move your boat around on the loch and want to take your first paddle strokes on the river, then this is the group for you.

CONTENT

The details are very much up to you, your volunteer coach, the river levels, and the weather.

Over the weekend we could take a look at:

Working with the river – can we choose the right trim, angle, paddle side, and edge to get the flow to do the work for us?

Picking lines on corners and simple rapids

Choosing whether to go faster or slower than the flow

Getting more out of our forwards paddling

Stroke combinations for tighter turns

…or just enjoying paddling our canoes down some gentle Scottish rivers!
