If you’re working towards your Canoe Open Water Leader and want to develop your skills then this optional training course is the one for you.
This course is all about meeting your development needs. We’ll look at the paddling, leadership and rescue skills required to lead groups of open canoeists on journeys in open water with winds up to force 4 and up to 500m off the shore.
We’ll make sure you’ll leave the course with a detailed picture of the assessment standard, a development plan to get you to that level and a firm grasp of what the assessment will involve.

AIMS
To help you work towards your British Canoeing Canoe Open Water Leader, which qualifies you to lead canoes on open water in winds of up to force 4.
PRE-REQUISITES
Some experience of paddling canoes on open water in force 3 winds.

CONTENT
This course runs with a maximum of 6 participants.
We’ll look at all the skills required to lead groups of open canoeists in on inland open water with winds up to 4. This will include sailing, rafting and poling as well as the paddling skills and tactics required to manoeuvre in moderate conditions.
We’ll also take a look at leadership, dealing with incidents and rescues.
