WEMSI Wilderness Physician

WEMSI is a unique organisation delivering courses in pre-hospital emergency care. The Faculty is made up of highly experienced doctors, paramedics, ambulance technicians, climbers, paddlers, skiers…..explorers and adventurers! Each year they come together from all over the world  and volunteer their time to provide a high staff-to-student ratio course that aims to equip students with knowledge and practical skills that will help prepare them for patient care in a remote environment. Each course has a very high practical content using realistic scenarios, patients and make-up that build in complexity as the course progresses; all theory sessions are delivered by  specialists in their field, making WEMSI courses both challenging and unique. All our courses have an element of on-going assessment.

The Wilderness Physician course is for qualified doctors who will not only be operating in remote environments, but who could also find themselves in the position of remotely assisting medics. The course runs in parallel with the W EMT course but has separate sessions where appropriate.  This course provides a strong mix of practical medical scenarios and co-ordination experience, enabling doctors to feel comfortable taking on a lead medical role on an expedition.
