The Level 3 Award is aimed at qualified mountain bike leaders, who wish to extend their remit to include remote terrain and trails of severe technical difficulty. The award also focuses on group management in technical terrain, navigation in challenging mountain conditions with few navigational features and incident management in remote environments. It is the most up to date and appropriate guiding qualification in the UK for technical riding.
Upon successfully passing the assessment you will be qualified as a BMBLA Level 3 Leader.

Downloaded, completed and returned the Level 3 Written Assignment 1 week prior to the practical assessment.

Your own Mountain Bike and appropriate leader’s rucksack and equipment
All appropriate paperwork included First Aid certificate, BC membership card, your Level 2 Leader’s Certificate and any relevant paperwork from the Level 3 leadership training course
A two day assessment process to complete the L3 qualification. The practical assessment is carried out over two days and is also complimented by a written assessment. Please click the link at the bottom of this page to download a copy of the written assessment, this must be returned to us no later than 1 week prior to your practical assessment. On the assessment it is expected that you will lead both the other candidates and also on day 2, some mock clients.
Logbook requirements:
At least a further 20 quality days since undergoing Level 3 training. Again, these should largely be in the last 12 months before assessment and cover a range of locations throughout the UK. At least five of these rides should be as an Assistant Leader in Level 3 terrain.

Use of kit
Packed lunch and afternoon tea each day
In-course transport
You will ideally come along ready to ride wild and technical trails. You will bring your Level 2 / TCL leader’s kit and a bike suitable for the adventure. This is an assessment for the Level 3 Leadership qualification and in that respect you should come along kitted out as a Level 2 / TCL holder. You will be expected to have the essential equipment a Level 3 Leader would need to carry in addition to the usual kit. Equipment Below is a simple kit list to help you come along prepared. Some of the items below are also available in stores if needs be.
If you do not have your own bike or are unable to bring it with you to the Lodge, we have a limited fleet of Trek bikes available for use. Please get in touch to arrange this prior to your course. E-bikes can be ridden on any of our qualification courses provided this has been discussed prior to attendance and approved by the course instructor.

Small bike lights front and rear – always a good idea to carry just in case!

Bike Computer – essential for leadership courses. A lap distance function is the most useful function if you are looking to purchase one

We have Laundry facilities here and a fantastic drying room so there is always the option to wash stuff as you go. Glenmore Lodge also has a pool & climbing wall – so don’t forget your swimming/climbing kit!
