DETAILED INFO

AIMS

This is a top end leadership award. Many of the restrictions placed on you at Level 2 are removed to allow you to use your highly developed judgement to deliver top days out for your clients. This award is cutting edge in its thinking and will equip you to individualise your leadership; navigate in challenging terrain and use your strong riding skillset to lead trails of a high level of difficulty.

PRE-REQUISITES

To attend the course, you will need to:

IS IT FOR ME?

The Level 3 Mountain Bike Leadership Award is aimed at highly experienced mountain bike leaders looking to lead groups and individuals in wild, more remote and / or more technical terrain than the Level 2 award remit allows. The award particularly focuses on group management in technical terrain, navigation in challenging conditions with few navigational features and incident management in remote environments. Your log book must consist of at least 30 quality days since the completion of the BMBLA Level 2, TCL or MBL. The majority of these should be within the last 12 – 18 months and represent all the UK has to offer. At least 12 of these rides should be as group leader or assistant leader. Consult British Cycling for criteria needed to qualify as a Quality Day.

NEED TO KNOW

WHAT WILL I NEED

You will ideally come along ready to ride wild and technical trails. You will bring your Level 2 / TCL leader’s kit and a bike suitable for the adventure. This is a training course for the Level 3 Leadership qualification and in that respect you should come along kitted out as a Level 2 / TCL holder. We will then develop your knowledge of the essential equipment a Level 3 Leader would need to carry in addition to the usual kit. However, there may be some items that you don’t have or maybe you wish to try something else. In that eventuality we have a well kitted out Stores facility. Listed here are the essentials; this is not an exhaustive list though. Should you be missing something then some of the items below are also available in stores if needs be.

If you do not have your own bike or are unable to bring it with you to the Lodge, we have a limited fleet of Trek bikes available for use. Please get in touch to arrange this prior to your course. E-bikes can be ridden on any of our qualification courses provided this has been discussed prior to attendance and approved by the course instructor.
