Please come prepared to get wet!
PARENTS PLEASE NOTE: These U18s courses are for young people who are keen on a particular activity.
They’ll receive expert tuition from highly qualified and experienced staff.
The course mirrors the adult ones of the same name, the content and aims are similar but the style is geared towards younger people. We have set a minimum age of 14 and a maximum of 17.
Parents should bear in mind that we have a public bar on the site and that generally Glenmore Lodge is geared towards adult residents. We are not able to provide entertainment and directly supervise the young people throughout the evenings, but staff are available 24 hours to deal with problems.
At the start of the course we’ll help you choose boats and equipment. Then we’ll head down to a local loch, or gently moving river to start learning how to control the boat. Over the week we’ll paddle a range of rivers, increasing the challenge as your control and confidence builds. We’ve got a wide range of local rivers choose from, including the Spey, Tay, Ness and Findhorn.
We’ll spend time coaching and developing your personal paddling. As you improve, you’ll start to “read the water”, anticipating what’s going to happen to your boat instead of reacting to it. We’ll also look at how to paddle safely as a group.
Glenmore Lodge has a purpose made kayak rolling pool, which will be available during the week. It’s a great place to develop your water confidence and rescue skills.
