DETAILED INFO

IS IT FOR ME?

Are you a budding Wild Skier but still find the skis can sometimes do their own thing? If you are still getting to grips with wild skiing then this is the session for you. Lots of coaching and instruction and bucket loads of doing. Our coaches and instructors will improve your technique and give you a wild time on skis too! Mixing all types of skiing together but primarily focussing on making you a better Wild skier we will be undertaking ski tours and if weather and conditions allow using the ski lifts on Cairngorm mountain (lift pass not included in package price)

Ski 1: You are confident on blue piste and enjoy skiing with smooth, rhythmic turns. On red runs you are capable of controlling your speed, speeding up and slowing down by altering the size and shape of your turns. Coping strategies such as side slipping and downhill kick turns may be familiar to you.

Mtn 1 – Experience of Ice Axe and Crampons is not necessary. Skiers should be well practiced in putting on and taking off skis on slopes in soft snow.

Fit 1 – As a skier you are capable of skiing all day with regular rests without noticing a significant drop in your technique through fatigue. You are capable of hiking in soft snow with skis on your back or skinning uphill for 2 – 3 hours (600 – 800m). A moderately heavy rucksack 5 – 8kgs will be carried during your course.

CONTENT

Choose this option if you are a skier fresh out of the nest or still learning to master the difficult, unpredictable, challenging, but ultimately emotionally enriching offpiste backcountry skiing. On this package you’ll be heading off for a unique journey exploring the mellow, friendly wide slopes of the Cairngorms, which are the perfect classroom to ask all your burning questions and practice & perfect your backcountry turns. We will be planning to mix things up and may make use of the Cairngorm ski area and lifts, perfect for polishing up our technical skills before heading off beyond the snow fences and questing away to discover the wild and exciting backcountry.

Over 2 days you’ll grow in confidence and tick some of the classics of the Cairngorms. You should plan to spend the first day in the ski area if weather and conditions allow and then use the newly refreshed or acquired skills to undertake a ski tour; For example, one objective could be a tour of Lurchers Gully, a wide gentle strip of snow that we can ascend and cruise back down having topped out on a Munro. Your Guides will find the best routes available for your needs and the groups needs.
