DETAILED INFO

AIMS

PRE-REQUISITES

Check out the ski, mountain and technical levels above.

IS IT FOR ME?

Are you looking to get more from your off-piste skiing? As a ski tourer you put in the effort to reach the summit and want to get most enjoyment from the descent.

Do you find yourself on the back foot, with your legs burning, surviving rather than thriving? How about learning the techniques and strategies to take charge of the snow conditions and terrain?

Our instructors will give you essential off-piste techniques to allow you to ski with confidence and control through breakable crust, or white out conditions.

CONTENT

We will use both groomed runs and off-piste terrain to build a strong and versatile ski platform to give you the confidence to ski the ‘whole mountain’.

The aim will be to start with basic ski techniques, using the latest freeride boots and off-piste skis. Our coaches and instructors will analysis your technique and help you adapt your existing skills to the demands of the off-piste environment. Video feedback and analysis will be an essential part of this course; we will be able to review footage immediately on the slope, so that improvements can be made instantly.

We will do as much skiing as possible; our emphasis will very much be on mileage and fine-tuning techniques to suit the conditions. Most of all it is about having fun on skis!

We will be skiing with small, lightweight rucksacks which will contain the essential safety items that all off-piste skiers should carry. Training in the use of this equipment will be given, but it should be noted that this NOT the main aim of the course. Content includes:

  • Individualised ski coaching and video feed back
  • Skiing techniques for the ‘whole mountain’ including hard/soft snow, powder and crud
  • Coping techniques for steeps, bumps poor visibility and breakable crusts
  • Avalanche awareness and use of avalanche transceivers
  • Equipment selection
  • Emergency procedures
