Community support

Glenmore Lodge have operated in the Cairngorms for over 65 years.  We are passionate about our local environment but also about our local community.  We seek to play an active role in community projects, contribute to local affairs and support and promote the development of the Cairngorms National Park, The Highlands and Scotland in general.

Our Environmental Levy

SCarrbridge Bike Shedince 2008 we have collected £1 from every course fee and put this into our Environmental & Social Fund.  Each year we distribute the fund to worthy projects. To date over £15,000 has gone to a number of local projects, including path work repairs, wildlife conservation, school bike sheds and research into tick borne disease.  Below are just a few of the projects we have supported recently.

  • Kingussie Primary School outdoor classroom project
  • Carrbridge Primary School bike shed
  • Anagach Woods
  • Whale & Dolphin Trust
  • Bothy shelters for local primary schools

Local Events

Whenever possible we look to support local and regional events, especially those that promote outdoor and adventure sport.  In the last year we have supported the Kingussie Bike Festival, the Wet West Paddlefest, the Ride Like a Grrl biking event to name but a few.  The biggest event we supported in 2013 was the first ever Cairngorms Bike Festival.  The event was aimed at increasing participation, skills and enjoyment in all forms of cycling.  The event was a huge success with over 1200 attending the single day event and over 400 receiving some form of cycling instruction.  We are sure this event will grow in strength.  For more details on the event visit

Local Facilities

Trials Bike Area FeatureWe are keen to help support the increase and provision of local facilities.  Glenmore Lodge has the UK’s only biathlon facility that is open to the public and is home to the UK’s most successful civilian Biathlon Club, the Cairngorm Biathlon and Nordic Skiiing Club –  We have also developed a number of cycling facilities, we have a skills development circuit that is free for anyone to use and in 2013 created the UK’s newest trials riding facility.  The facility has already hosted a round of the Scottish Championship and the aim to to host a Brittish, European and then World event within the next 5 years, bringing visitors, investment and media coverage to the area.

We arent just about supporting facilities on site either.  We are actively supporting the Aviemore Leisure Centre project and hope this will bring much needed improved leisure facilities to the area.

Local Produce

Our commitment to supporting the local economy is just as strong, wherever possible we look to purchase and promote local products and local suppliers.  This doesn’t stop with just food, our bar is a strong supporter of the Aveimore based Cairngorm Brewery who have even named a beer ‘Spindrift’ especially for us.  Being based so close to the Speyside Whisky trail isn’t lost on us either; our favourite tipple is a wee dram of Balvenie Double Wood.
