£10,000 Investment into Avalanche Training Park and Mobile Facility, Now Open for Business

By Glenmore Lodge

An investment of £10,000 has been made into the Avalanche Rescue Training Facility as well as the purchase of a mobile Rescue training facility, at Glenmore Lodge, sportscotland’s National Outdoor Training Centre.

The original facility based at Glenmore Lodge was launched in 2011 and became an invaluable training tool for many including Outdoor Instructors, students on safety training courses and Mountain Rescue teams.

This new significant investment has allowed the facility to be substantially modernised and is now a Pieps Avalanche Rescue Training (ART) facility, which both Glenmore Lodge and external groups will be able to educate and train on.

Alongside the station, the investment into a mobile training unit is another first for Glenmore Lodge and will bring significant benefits, allowing real-life scenario training out on the hill.

Shaun Roberts, Principal at Glenmore Lodge said “Avalanche education and mountain safety is deeply important to sportscotland and to Glenmore Lodge.  We’re delighted that these two new tools will allow us to continue to further avalanche education, not just for our own staff, but for the wider community and for the recreational skier, mountaineer and walker.

He adds “It is our hope that the outdoor sector in Scotland and the UK will have the opportunity to benefit from this investment.”

The announcement comes just weeks since Glenmore Lodge and Pieps announced a new partnership, recognising the importance of avalanche education within Scotland.

Tim Kerti, Marketing Manager at Pieps adds “Off-piste and mountain safety starts with training and Glenmore Lodge will be using the Pieps App along with the new state of the art Avalanche Rescue Training (ART) facility at the Lodge and our mobile ART station out on the hill.

This enables us to pass on both the tools and knowledge to help keep everyone safe in the mountains.”
