DETAILED INFO

AIMS

To complete a 5-day open canoe journey around Moidart. Paddling, sailing, and perhaps poling or portaging our canoes by day and wild camp at night.

PRE-REQUISITES

10-15 days canoeing

Fitness for a 5-day expedition and paddling days of up to 20km

IS IT FOR ME?

If you’ve got a bit of canoeing experience and want to paddle in this beautiful part of the Highlands, taking in the scenery and enjoying change of pace from daily life, then this is the trip for you.

CONTENT

We’ll begin the week at Glenmore Lodge, packing our kit before loading up and driving to Moidart. If it’s more convenient, we can pick you up en route at Corpach Station.

The area offers us several options, depending on the group and weather. One such option would be to begin our journey near Glenfinnan, then head along Loch Shiel and down the length of the river Shiel (mostly grade 1-2 with one easily portaged tidal rapid at the end). This would then take us inot the sea at Loch Moidart, where we might paddle round the coastline to Loch Ailort.

We’ll be wild camping and cooking as a group, enjoying exploring the stunning landscape and a change of pace from daily life.

We’ll normally plan to complete this expedition paddling tandem (i.e. 2 people in a canoe), however more experienced canoeists are welcome to paddle solo.
