If you’re working towards your BCAB Advanced Sea Kayak Leader (Tidal) and want to develop your skills then this optional training course is the one for you.
This course is all about meeting your development needs. We’ll look at the paddling, leadership and rescue skills required to lead groups on advanced sea kayak trips.
We’ll make sure you’ll leave the course with a detailed picture of the assessment standard, a development plan to get you to that level and a firm grasp of what the assessment will involve.
To help you work towards your BCAB Advanced Sea Kayak Leader (Tidal) Assessment, which qualifies you to lead groups of sea kayakers in winds above force 4, tidal flow above 2 knots, tidal races, overfalls and open crossings.
We’ll also run evening sessions to complete the BCAB Open Water Navigation and Tidal Planning course.
To get the most out of this course, you’ll be happy manoeuvring your sea kayak in force 4, tidal flow and waves around 1m.

We’ll be based south of Oban, in the Firth of Lorn which offers us a variety of advanced environments.
Weather permitting, we’ll head out for a night paddle, looking at navigation and leading groups in the dark.

This is a non-residential course, based around the Firth of Lorn, south of Oban. There’s a range of accommodation available in the local area. We recommend that you take out travel insurance to cover your accommodation costs in the unlikely event that we have to cancel the course.
The course is likely to involve a night paddle. We’ll finish by 17.00 on the last day.
Glenmore Lodge has a large and very comprehensive store of up to date clothing and equipment. You are welcome to use your own equipment and pick and choose odd items from the store. Your instructor will want to check that personal equipment is appropriate for the environment.
