Is It For Me?
The BC Advanced Canoe Leader is designed to qualify paddlers to lead appropriately skilled groups in the advanced environment and therefore indicates that you are at the top level of performance. This involves a high level of personal skill and leadership in advanced situations
This two-day course will provide look at all aspects of the BC Advanced Canoe Leader syllabus. The BC Advanced Canoe Leader Award is a discipline specific award and you will be assessed in canoe in appropriate advanced white water rivers and advanced open water.
The assessment course will include personal paddling, journeying, equipment awareness, environmental awareness and supporting knowledge. In addition to this safety and rescue will be covered along with advanced white water and open loch leadership. A variety of venues will be used and the emphasis will be of making best use of Grade 3 water and open water with winds up to Force 5.
The course will finish by giving you a clear feedback and an action plan as to help you further develop as a paddler, along with hopefully awarding the BC Advanced Canoe Leader Award.
On your assessment course you will have real ‘mock students’ to lead. It would be of great assistance to us if you were able in any way to help supply mock students of a suitable ability for this assessment, or other assessments we run. If you feel this is possible please download the appropriate form under ‘Free Training’ on our website and get any potential mock students to fill it in.
For further information and more detailed syllabus please contact the SCA on 0131 317 7314 or look on the British Canoeing Awarding Body website;
