Course Aims

As mentioned the exact detail of the courses will change depending on the season.

Winter – all about helping you prepare for the next season and tips on enjoying riding through the colder months

Spring – what to do just before race season, short term preparation and riding skills to help you get the best times and have the most fun.

Summer – mainly riding skills to help you get the best times and feel the most confident.

All our courses will include tips and advice on Nutrition, help with the psychological aspects of competing, advice on gym work to complement your riding fitness and obviously great coaching by experienced racers, riders and coaches.

Course Content

To a degree the courses will be tailored to be an exact fit for you but will be based around the details above.

We will have time in the gym, time in a classroom looking at key aspects of good preparation but mainly the course will be based on bike riding great features, trails and tracks.

The ratio of tutor to students is 1:4, which allows time and space for individual tuition and plenty of practice and the ability to tailor the tuition around your needs. The first day of the course is generally based in and around Glenmore Lodge with the second day going further-a-field to one of the local trail centres or to trails in the surrounding area.

What Will I Need?

To get the most out of the two days it is important to be comfortable in your gear and with your equipment. Therefore, it is always best to have your own and have used it before coming along on a course. You’ll get a better fit maybe, but definitely you’ll get to choose the colour!

If you ride normally ride with SPD pedals then consider riding with flats. This will help you gain confidence whilst practising new skills on the bike. We can supply the flat pedals if you bring along a pair of flat soled trainers.

However, there may be some items that you don’t have or maybe you wish to try something else. In that eventuality we have a well kitted out Stores facility.

If you need to borrow a bike then please call us in advance of your course to check availability and sizing as we cannot guarantee that there will be a bike available if not.

  • Small bike lights front and rear – always a good idea to carry just in case!
  • Small Biking Day pack – 25L max
  • Helmet
  • Eye wear
  • Thin woolly hat or buff for under helmet ***
  • Gloves – thin, full finger cycling gloves are perfect ***
  • Warmer Cycle friendly Full finger Gloves – just in case its cold ***
  • Water proof jacket & trousers – Suitable for cycling
  • Padded cycling Shorts – there really are worth it for comfort!
  • Outer Baggy Cycling Shorts
  • Thin fleece or similar
  • Full leg covering – for cold days e.g. cycle tights or cycling leg warmers
  • Warm outdoor wear
  • Insulating layers – a variety of base layers are useful to control your temperature
  • Small personal first aid kit
  • Map (sheet 36, 1:50 000) ***
  • Map case ***
  • Drink system – hydration pack / water bottle
  • Spare inner tube x2 for your bike
  • Spare Brake pads x2 for your bike
  • Spare Rear Gear Mechanism hanger for your bike – Call your local bike shop for help with this
  • Small Trail Toolkit – Pump, multi tool and chain breaker at least ***
  • Emergency survival bag ***
  • Head torch

  • Compass – Silva type 4 recommended ***

We have Laundry facilities here and a fantastic drying room so there is always the option to wash stuff as you go.

Glenmore Lodge also has a pool, gym & climbing wall – so don’t forget your swimming/gym/climbing kit!

Remember the price is all inclusive

We want our customers to easily know what their course will cost, up front and in the open. Accommodation on the night before and the nights during your course, pick up from the train station (Friday and Sunday evenings only), breakfast, lunch, cake break and dinner are all included. All transportation on the course, centre facilities & any equipment you borrow are also part of the package.

  • Bed in shared en-suite room – available from 3pm on day before your course starts *

(Single rooms may be available for a supplementary charge, please ask at reception when you arrive)

  • Breakfast
  • Dinner for each course day (except one day and back-to-back courses)
  • Use of the facilities at Glenmore Lodge
  • Linen is provided along with a towel, you may wish to bring an extra towel if you would like to use the facilities or are on a paddlesport course

Arriving at Glenmore Lodge

  • Your first inclusive meal is breakfast (7:45 -8:30am) An evening meal is not provided on your arrival night, but bar meals are available in our Lochain bar 5pm to 9pm (5-7pm on Mondays and Tuesdays)
  • Packed lunches are collected at breakfast
  • On Mondays and Saturdays only there will be a 10 minute welcome talk at 8.15am, on other days you will meet your instructor at 9am. The daily programme of your course will be discussed with your instructor when you first meet, taking into account aspirations and prevailing weather conditions

On your last day

  • Check out time is 10am on the final day of your booking, we have changing areas, showers and left luggage facilities on site
  • All courses will finish by 5pm
  • On Fridays and Sundays we offer a drop off to Aviemore station, leaving Glenmore Lodge at 5pm, please contact us at least 24 hours in advance if you would like to book this service
