The award also focuses on group management in technical terrain, navigation in challenging mountain conditions with few navigational features and incident management in remote environments.

It is the most up to date and appropriate guiding qualification in the UK for technical riding.

This is a 2 day assessment.

Can I transfer from the MBLA scheme to the new UKMBLS?

Yes. Any TCL or MBL holder can transfer onto the new scheme by registering with BC.

Course Aims

Upon succesfully passing the assessment you will be qualified as a UKMBLS Level 3 Leader.

Course Content

  • The first day looks at personal riding standards and competance in appropriate trailside fixes. it will include a mountain bike journey during which each candidate will be able to demonstrate their personal riding ability in Level 3 terrain. You will also be navigating throughout the ride..
  • The second day will be focussed around leading a group in Level 3 MTB Leadership terrain. During this day, all aspects of the syllabus maybe covered.

On the assessment it is expected that you will lead both the other candidates and also on day 2, some mock clients.

What Will I Need?

You should attend with

Your own Mountain Bike and appropriate leader’s rucksack and equipment

Your completed logbook

All appropriate paperwork incl First Aid certificate, BC membership card, your Level 2 Leader’s Certificate and any relevant paperwork from the Level 3 leadership training course.

Remember, if you book the residential package the package is all inclusive

We want our customers to easily know what their course will cost, up front and in the open. Accommodation on the night before and the nights during your course, pick up from the train station (Friday and Sunday evenings only), breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and cake and dinner are all included. All transportation on the course, centre facilities & any equipment you borrow are also part of the package.

It is recommended that due to the content, the length of the days and the physical nature to the training that you book a residential package.

If you do book the non-residential option then lunch and tea and cake are still included.

We have Laundry facilities here and a fantastic drying room so there is always the option to wash stuff as you go.

Glenmore Lodge also has a pool, gym & climbing wall – so don’t forget your swimming/gym/climbing kit!
