Is It For Me?

This two day course is aimed at those who are looking to develop their rock climbing experience whilst enjoying the rich variety of rock climbing, found in the Central Highlands. As such it is ideal for novices and those who are active indoor wall climbers but have little experience of climbing outside. You don’t have to have any previous experience of rock climbing although being fit and active would be advantageous.

Course Aims

To develop a solid foundation in core rock climbing techniques, whilst climbing a variety of single pitch rock climbs, such that you will be a competent and self reliant second.

Course Content

Meeting your instructor on the first morning provides an opportunity to discuss you and the other participants experience and aspirations, enabling the instructor to plan the program around the main topics to be covered. These are:

  • Developing participant’s FUNdamental movement skills on a variety of rock types.
  • Experience the different disciplines of rock climbing, such as bouldering, sport or trad climbing.
  • How to interpret a climbing guidebook and choose a climb.
  • Develop ability to second rock climbs.
  • Belaying both leader and second.
  • Descending from rock climbs by abseiling using self-protection methods.

Really enjoyed the course, thought the balance between climbing and skills was about right and in particular I though the instructor Johannes was excellent.
