Bill Strachan

Who or what inspired you?

No one person or event inspired me to get into this job.  I realised that one of the things I love most about spending time walking and climbing in the hills was being able to share that it others. It’s fantastic to see folk that I introduced to the hills still active in them years later.  That inspires me.

How did you become an Instructor?

I took a break from my regular job and to spend nine months in Norfolk of all places to complete a practical outdoor programme. That was the first time that I had ever heard of such a thing as a qualification for the outdoor environment.  It was meant to be a short break, that was 21 years ago.

Tell us about a favourite route or destination?

It could be the anything on the Buachaille as that was the focus of many childhood holidays; a winter traverse of the Skye Ridge in near perfect conditions or maybe sitting on a ledge on Mount Arapiles with a close friend and a cold beer watching the sun set.
