Volunteers Programme 2011

Sponsored by Glenmore Lodge and Grangers

If you are a volunteer in Scotland working for a group that venture into the outdoors and your group would benefit from you gaining one of the UK’s instructor / leader qualifications, you could benefit from our special volunteers fund.

The scheme helps to recognise the good work that Scotland’s volunteer sector undertakes and how important this is in helping people to access outdoor activity. Over 100 people have benefited from the scheme and this year we are keen to add to that number. If you work for free, helping guide or coach others on courses or events that are provided to them free of charge then the Grangers Volunteer funds can help support you.

Grangers annually donate money to the scheme as part of their Community Trust Programme which aims to sustain and support responsible outdoor enterprises, Glenmore Lodge then match this funding. This partnership enables us to offer volunteers two different ways of reducing the price of instruction and therefore helping to increase participation in the outdoors, particularly, (but not specifically), within those groups with barriers to experiencing the outdoors.

PLEASE NOTE YOU MUST APPLY FOR THE FUNDING BEFORE BOOKING YOUR COURSE.  WE CANNOT RETROSPECTIVELY APPLY FUNDING TO COURSES ALREADY BOOKED.

Grangers Grants

The first scheme is a grant funding programme. Simply complete appropriate form and once we have completed a few checks and contacted your referee; we will allocate a level of funding appropriate to your request. This could be anything from 10% to 50% of the total course cost.

Grangers Last Minute Places

Occasionally we have places on relevant courses that become available at the last minute. For the first time Grangers and Glenmore Lodge are pleased to be able to offer a guaranteed level of funding on these course places. If you are available to attend a course, with as little as two weeks’ notice and meet the same criteria as the Grangers Grants scheme then this might be the best option for you. Simply complete the application form, highlighting all of the dates you are available on and if we have a last minute place on that course we will contact you. Places will be offered on a first applied, first contacted basis. In most cases we will aim to offer the place with 2 weeks’ notice, but occasionally it could be just a couple of days.

Quotes from previous students

Duke of Edinburgh - Jackie Young
‘We need more leaders to cater for the number of kids that want to go out on expeditions. This is a brilliant course. Fantastic instructors and place to come. I know that I am in touch with about 200 youngsters each year. This will really help me do a better job. Brilliant.’

Sea Cadets
‘This week has been fantastic value for money. Coaches are brilliant . If we don’t get these qualifications, the kids don’t get the opportunities. It is as simple as that.’
