11th May

5* Leader Assessment Open - 2+ days

The 5 Star Leader Award is a discipline specific award and you will be assessed in canoe in appropriate advanced white water rivers and advanced open water.

Introduction to Scrambling - 2 days

Course covers movement skills on rock in ascent and descent, route finding, basic rope skills using a sling and rope alone as well as selecting natural anchors.

Wild Wheels - 2 days

Develop the basic skills that make mountain biking fun. Learn to control your bike - not the other way round. Includes climbing, descending, braking, balance, body position, riding simple obstacles and skills for a variety of trails.

12th May

Sea- Intermediate Sea Kayak - Skye

This course will be dependant on the weather conditions, however it should provide the paddler with plenty of experience of paddling a variety of coastlines, including some short open crossing and areas of tidal movement. In addition to this the week will focus on tidal planning, seamanship and weather forecasting, safety and rescue, as well as of course developing your personal paddling on advanced coastal waters. 

13th May

Introduction to White Water Kayaking - 5 days

First day is based in our indoor pool and on our local loch before we head west to our base at Inchree. The west coast gives us access to some of the best sea kayaking in the UK. Equipment, route planning basic strokes and emergency procedures are all covered.

Hill Walking and Mountain Skills - 5 days

Whilst exploring the Cairngorm Mountains and surrounding hills, this course covers hill walking equipment; emergency procedures; basic navigation and route planning.

15th May

Trad Climbing Improver - 2 days

This course is designed for those who wish to develop their lead climbing skills or if you are just getting back into the sport after a lay off.

4* Leader Training Open - 3 days

This three-day course will provide relevant training to allow paddlers to work towards sitting their BCU 4 Star Canoe Leader Assessment

4* Leader Assessment Sea - 2+ days

The assessment will include personal paddling, tidal planning, navigation, equipment awareness, environmental awareness and supporting knowledge.

18th May

Moderate Water Endorsement Training Sea - 2 days

Explores UKCC Level 2 coaching concepts to develop paddlers in a moderate water environment.

Introduction to Climbing Self Rescue - 1 day

For climbers who are primarily operating on multi-pitch climbs and are looking to learn some core techniques to deal with emergency situations, such as a stuck or injured climber on a multi –pitch climb, where help may be slow to arrive.

Introduction to Navigation Skills - 1 day

Learn the fundamental skills of navigation, map setting, interpreting scales, contours and how to keep track of where you are.

19th May

Movement on Rock - 1 day

Focuses on developing your movement on rock by refining your climbing technique and movement skills, encouraging a more flowing and confident technique. Pre-requisites: Experience of climbing either indoors or outdoors.

20th May

Learn to Rock Climb - 5 day

Over the 5 days this course will cover rock climbing movement techniques, belaying, personal abseiling and there may be opportunities to experience multi pitch climbs.

Learn to Lead Climb - 5 day

Develop a confident and competent approach to leading summer climbs through placing protection; constructing belays; stance and rope management; leading and psychological coping strategies.

BCU Foundation Safety & Rescue - 1 day

This one day course is designed for all paddlers irrespective of craft and is a pre-requisite for the UKCC Level 1 Coach Award and Touring Four Star Leader Award, as well as being a course suitable for any active paddler.

21st May

BCU UKCC Level 1 Certificate - 4 day

The Level 1 Training and Assessment course is open to boat based and bank based coaches alike, and in any discipline of paddlesport, recreational or competitive.

25th May

Summer Mountain Leader Refresher - 2 day

An opportunity to brush up on the skills learnt during training, providing you with the best possible opportunity to pass your assessment.

Intro to Sea Kayaking - 2 day

First day is based in our indoor pool and on our local loch, with a journey on the sea on the second. Equipment, route planning basasic strokes and emergency procedures are all covered.

MLT Summer Mountain Leader Assessment - 5 day

The Mountain Leader Award (ML) was established to promote the safe enjoyment of the hills and mountains. The scheme provides training and assessment in the technical and group management skills required by those who wish to lead groups in the mountains, hills and moorlands of the United Kingdom and Ireland, other than winter conditions.

MLT - International Mountain Leader Summer Training - 5 day

This is a professional award required by EU member states and allows holders to lead paying clients on walking journeys to all areas except on glaciers and where the techniques and equipment of alpinism are required.

Open - Intro to Open Canoe - 5 day

This course will provide the canoeist with experience of paddling grade 1 or 2 rivers and lochs. In addition to this the two days will focus on safety and rescue, journeying skills and canoe specific skills, as well as of course developing your personal paddling skills for moving water and open lochs.

28th May

Rock - Intro to Sport Climbing - 2 day

To get the most from this course you should have some indoor wall leading experience and be climbing at the indoor wall grade of 6a. Our aim is to develop a solid foundation in sport climbing techniques, whilst climbing a variety of single pitch rock climbs, such that you will be a competent and self reliant second / leader.

BCU - Moderate Water Endorsement Assessment White Water

Assessment course covering the syllabus to award a BCU recognised qualification to coach in a moderate water environment

30th May

Rock - Trad Climbing Improver - 2 day

Our aim is to develop the technical skills required to lead single / multi-pitch rock climbs confidently and competently on a variety of crags.

Rock - Sport Climbing Improver - 2 day

To get the most from this course you should have regular indoor wall leading experience and be climbing at the indoor wall grade of 6a minimum. It is our aim to develop a solid foundation in sport climbing techniques, whilst climbing a variety of single pitch rock climbs, such that you will be a competent sport climber and comfortable with red-pointing.

BCU - Moderate Water Endorsement Assessment Sea

Assessment course coverinbg the syllabus to award a BCU recognised qualification to coach in a moderate water environment.

1st June

BCU UKCC - Level 3 Coaching Paddlesport Training - Training Sea

Meeting at 2000 on the arrival evening allows time to process the paperwork, work through the pre-assessment tasks in the Portfolio, outline the course programme as well as prepare for the following days coaching sessions.

Open - Intro Open Canoe - 2 day

This course will provide the canoeist with experience of paddling grade 1 or 2 rivers and lochs. In addition to this the two days will focus on safety and rescue, journeying skills and canoe specific skills, as well as of course developing your personal paddling skills for moving water and open lochs.

 Summer - Intro to Scrambling - 2 day

 You will usually be in a team of four with one instructor. Meeting your instructor on the first morning provides an opportunity to discuss you and the other participants experience and aspirations, enabling the instructor to plan the programme around the main topics to be covered.

Canyoning - Learn to Canyon - 2 day

Although there are lots of companies in the UK offering canyoning experience days, this is one of, if not the only ‘learn to canyon’ course in the UK.

2nd June

3rd June

Introduction to Sea Kayaking - 5 days

This course will be dependant on the weather conditions, however it should provide the paddler with plenty of experience of paddling a variety of coastlines and visit some great islands. In addition to this the week will focus on tidal planning, seamanship and weather forecasting, safety and rescue, as well as of course developing your ability to paddle a sea kayak. At the end of the week you should feel confident in planning your own trips and getting out sea kayaking.

Trail Cycle Leader Training - 2 days

First level of Mountain Bike Leader qualification which equips the cycle leader with all the skills and knowledge necessary to lead a group of mountain bikers in non serious and non remote areas.

Learn to Rock Climb - 5 days

The objective of this course is to introduce and develop participants core rock climbing skills whilst enjoying maximum climbing mileage. Most of the course will be based outside with all the climbing action taking place on real rock – weather permitting.

Learn to Lead Climb - 5 days

Learning to lead climb using leader placed protection is a crucial stage for a climber, and the most important time to get expert tuition.

BCU - White Water Safety & Rescue - 2 days

This course is a pre-requisite for the White Water Kayak and Canoe Four Star Leader Award, as well as being a course suitable for any active white water paddler.

Training will take place on a variety of rivers up to grade 2-3 to enhance training and create real scenarios. The emphasis will be on safe river running and include detailed river rescue, personal coaching, group control and communication.
 

5th June

BCU 4* Leader Training White Water - 2 days

This two-day course will provide relevant training to allow paddlers to work towards sitting their BCU 4 Star White Water Kayak Leader Assessment.

Mountain Bike Expedition Module Training - 2 days

Bolt on training module for qualified TCL or MBL candidates. The course prepares the candidate for leading groups on self supported mountain biking expeditions, of one or more nights duration, within the terrain they are qualified in.

7th June

Mountain Bike Maintenance - 1 day

This is a one day course, which equips the Mountain Biker with all the necessary skills to set up, maintain and fix their bikes in the workshop or on the trail.

8th June

First Aid - BASP - Emergency First Aid - 2 days

This course is suitable for potential outdoor instructors, or enthusiasts and any person who has been awakened to the necessity of life saving skills in sudden illness or accidents.

Open Canoe Journeying Skills -2 days

Ideal for those with basic skills who are looking to plan and embark on their own adventures. One day spent on the loch and one on moving water. We will cover personal paddling skills, equipment, safety, journey planning, sailing, poling, lining and environmental impact.

Mountain Bike - Shifting Gears - 2 days

Designed for regular mountain bikers to improve their skills enabling them to ride harder or faster trails. Skills such as drop offs, manual lifts, bunny hop and lateral movement, climbing and descending more technical trails as well as workshop and mechanical tips.

Mountain Bike - Wild Wheels - 2 days

Develop the basic skills that make mountain biking fun. Learn to control your bike - not the other way round. Includes climbing, descending, braking, balance, body position, riding simple obstacles and skills for a variety of trails.

Mountain Bike - Confidence Builder - 1 day

All about passing on good riding tips to anyone that uses their bike on or off road, for commuting or exercise. It is suitable for anybody with a bike! Bring your bike along whatever it might be, also really good for those returning to cycling from a wee break.

BCU - Coastal Navigation & Tidal Planning - 1 day

Training will be classroom based and will make use of Glenmore Lodge’s IT facilities, classrooms and extensive tidal planning resources. The emphasis of this course is an introduction to tides, how to predict them and how they work.

Introduction to Navigation Skills - 1 day

Improver Course for Navigation Skills - 1 day

This course is the perfect step on from the Intro course and can be added on to make a two day course. Introduces compass work, taking & following a bearing as well as route choice.

Scrambling on Skye - 5 Days

The course will extend participants mountaineering experience and enable them to enjoy some of the most challenging mountaineering experiences in the UK, with ascents of classic Skye scrambles/easy rock climbs.

Traverse of the Cullin Ridge - 5 Days

This is our most strenuous summer course and is an ideal lead on from our Skye scrambles course. This course involves undertaking over two days what is undoubtedly the UK’s finest mountaineering expedition - a continuous traverse of the seven mile long Cuillin Ridge. This traverse involves 13,000ft of ascent, 11 Munro’s, rock climbing up to ‘severe’ in standard, abseiling and an overnight bivouac high on the ridge.
