Glenmore Lodge's Environmental Challenge

Here at Glenmore Lodge we have one of the best back garden's in the world and we want to continue enjoying it for years to come.

"We understand the fragile and special nature of our environment and we will ensure that activities are sustainable. We are committed to making environmental improvements to the site on which we operate and we will take a responsible approach to the efficient use of our resources and waste management. We will communicate high standards of sustainable good practice to our customers and students attending courses. We acknowledge our global and local social responsibilities, especially in the local area as an employer and purchaser of local goods and user of local services". (Glenmore Lodge Plan 2009-11).

Recycle, Recycle, Recycle

We have always recycled as much as we can but now the list has grown as Highland Council has started recycling Tetra Pak and Plastic Bottles.

We are now able to recycle the following:

  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Cans
  • Glass
  • Batteries
  • Cooking Oil
  • Tetra Pak
  • Plastic Bottles
  • Wood
  • Metal
  • Strip Lights
  • Old Clothing

Waste Compactor

With more recycling the amount of waste going to landfill has been reduced. We now also have a waste compactor which will reduce the number of times the bin lorry has to come to the Lodge to empty the bins.

Environmental Challenge Fund

Over the last year we have collected £1 from every course fee. In March we were able to distribute this money to a number of environmental projects. More information on the projects will be available later in the year.

  • Carrbridge Primary School Bike Shed Project
  • Abernethy Primary School Cycle to School Project
  • BADA - Research into Tick Diseases
  • Highland Tiger Project (Scottish Wildcat)
  • Cairngorm Outdoor Access Trust
  • John Muir Trust
  • Work on access steps at Knockando

Green Business Tourism Scheme

We are proud members of the Green Business Tourism Scheme. We are currently graded at Gold Level.  For more information take a look at www.green-business.co.uk
