An ideal course for those new to the concept of canoeing. Sessions on the loch and river on the first day will prepare you for a river trip on the second. The course covers essential skills, equipment, safety and understanding moving water.
Fundamental skills are introduced locally and these built on during the week on a variety of journeys. Equipment, journey planning, essential skills, emergency procedures and environmental input.
Building on existing skills, the aim is to develop a solid foundation of solo and tandem techniques for Grade 2 water and open water crossings, turning you into an independent paddler. Equipment, river reading, journey planning and emergency procedures are all covered.
Experience a variety of Grade 3 rivers and maybe some harder sections too. Windier conditions on open lochs will also be covered if conditions allow. Solo and tandem paddling will be covered and a range of skills leaving you more independent with skills to canoe advanced water.
Ideal for those with basic skills who are looking to plan and embark on their own adventures. One day spent on the loch and one on moving water. We will cover personal paddling skills, equipment, safety, journey planning, sailing, poling, lining and environmental impact.

Classic Scottish Open Canoe journey, around the magnificent hills in the Inverpolly area. The journey is about 30km long and broken into manageable sections, with opportunities to climb some remote hills (Suilven, Cul Mor and Stac Pollaidh) that you are not normally able to gain easy access to.
Over the 5 days the paddle journey is about 60km long and broken into manageable sections, with opportunities to climb some remote hills (Beinn Resipol, Beinn Odhar Mhor, Sgurr Ghiubhsachain, Sgurr an Tarmachan) that you are not normally able to gain easy access to.
From Fort William to Inverness, the Great Glen cuts Scotland in half. Paddle the full length of Loch Ness, Oich and Lochy, developing your skills as you go, camping overnight, including on the side of the world’s most famous loch…a monster expedition!
A 60-mile classic journey that is on every open canoeists wish list. From Loch Insh to Spey Bay. The first night will be spent at Glenmore Lodge followed by three nights expedition on the river. Personal paddling, river reading, equipment, expedition skills and fantastic scenery.
Simply the best rivers on offer in the Scottish Highlands. Making the most of the conditions and our local knowledge, this will be a week to remember when we will journey along the best rivers and lochs all over the Highlands. Coaching and advice is given throughout the week.
