Heather Morning

Chief Instructor

Qualifications

WMCI Masters in Managing Sustainable Mountain Development

What or who inspired you?

My parents were keen hillwalkers, and living in rural North Yorkshire meant I grew up enjoying the outdoors. When I was young, my dad constructed a home-made seat and attached it to an old rucksack frame so my first mountain adventures began before I could even walk.

How did you become an Instructor?

While volunteering with a local youth group I was introduced to the Mountain Leader scheme – I already had at least half the Munros under my belt at that point, so it was an opportunity not to be missed. I went to university and did the PGCE in Outdoor Ed at Bangor before teaching at an LEA centre in North Wales and then gaining a place on the Assistant Instructor Scheme at Plas y Brenin

What are some of your career highlights?

The three seasons I spent guiding clients in Antarctica on Mount Vinson and 13 years of working for Mountaineering Scotland as the Mountain Safety Advisor

Tell us about your favourite route or destination?

I enjoy bikepacking to remote bothies and remote open boat journeys in the Yukon Wilderness
