Mini Biography

I work full time as an MCI  based in Aviemore where I live with my family. Some of my career highlights have been guiding my first Cuillin traverse, new routing with clients in remote places and training a young client to climb the Old Man of Hoy. Climbing is my passion and it has taken me to some amazing places from high altitude alpinism in Alaska to big walling in Yosemite. Climbing has many different disciplines. Which means it is easy to become a jack of all, a master of none. But over the years I feel I have started to master my crafts.

Who or what inspired you?

Wild spaces whether it be forests, Mountains or the ocean have always been special, and I have always felt a sense of awe and connection. So, it was the idea of Adventure in these spaces that initially inspired me. The fact that it seemed a bit anti-establishment and the competitive scene was less obvious made it seem all the better too.

Now it could be several things- A cool looking peak or feature on a boulder, the next progression, the feeling of improvement or simply it just looks really hard.

How did you become an Instructor?

I did and outdoor Education course in the most unlikely of places- Kings Lynn. That was my first real taste of outdoor sport and I haven’t looked back. I have since worked my way through qualifications and companies gaining experience as I go.

Tell us about a favourite route or location?

Too many to choose. To be honest I just love climbing, so throw in some good banter with a mate and it really doesn’t matter.
