GLENMORE LODGE'S ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGE
THE STORY SO FAR...
This is our back garden, where Glenmore Lodgites go out to play.We want to keep enjoying the environment we love so we are doing our best to help protect it.
Some of the issues we are currently trying to help with are:
- Minimising energy and water usage,
- Recycling and minimising waste,
- Minimising our carbon footprint,
- Using environmentally friendly products.
When you visit Glenmore Lodge we will ask you to do the same!
INTRODUCING GLENMORE LODGE'S GREEN TEAM
THE KITCHEN TEAM
- Have changed to sourcing food from local suppliers only.
- Make sure we don't use more than we need.
- Have changed their cleaning products to "Ecover".This brand uses ingredients, which are from renewable sources and are fully biodegradable.
THE DOMESTIC TEAM
- Have changed to a local linen supplier.
- Use hyper allergic bedding.
- Use 'Ecover' washing powder.
THE OFFICE TEAM
- Will recycle anything they can get their hands on!
THE BAR TEAM
- Are in competition with them.
THE FACILITIES TEAM
Could be the front runners for this one...
- Not only do they provide us with energy saving light bulbs, they also recycle them along with wood, scrap metal, electrical items.
THE INSTRUCTIONAL TEAM
- Try to minimise the impact their groups have on the environments they visit by abiding by, and of course always teaching, good environmental practise and responsible access. For instance, they have the very pleasant job of carrying out their human waste from the hills in winter to protect our rivers during the snowmelt period. And Jim, our heroic Storeman, disposes of it.
- Minimise on transport by trying to pack everyone off together in a Glenmore Lodge van.
- And being super-fit, they don't even need to use their cars.
THE MANAGEMENT TEAM
- Have the power to do anything they want and are going to turn the new residential wing (due for completion end of 2007) into a state of the art construction, using the most environmentally efficient building practice.
- Insulation will be of the highest standard.
- And we are investigating the possibility of this wing being powered through thermo-geo heat transfer and (due to all the sun we get in Scotland) solar panel. Keep your eye on the website to check out our progress.
Thanks for your attention, we appreciate your interest.
Voluntary Environmental Levy Statement:
Everyone who attends one of our courses is invited to make a voluntary donation of £1. The money raised will be spent on an environmental project within the Cairngorms National Park Area.
