Outdoor Adventure Sports in Scotland
What and Where is Glenmore Lodge?
We are Scotland's National Outdoor Training Centre and we are located in the heart of Cairngorm National Park. As a National Centre, we set the highest standards for quality of instruction, equipment , safety and environmental awareness.
What do Glenmore Lodge do?
Our goal is to inspire adventure by teaching beginners, coaching intermediate/advanced and delivering training and assessment courses for leaders and instructors. Our areas of expertise are:
- Mountainsport: rock climbing, ice climbing, navigation skills, winter/summer mountain skills, ski touring/mountaineering, mountain biking
- Paddlesport: sea kayaking, surf kayaking, river kayaking, open boating
- First Aid & Rescue : Paddlesport and Mountainsports.
Why Would You Choose a Lodge Course?
Not an unreasonable question and funnily enough we have lots of good reasons.
1) As a National Centre, we employ the top instructors in the country, the single most important aspect of any learning experience is your instructor.
2) Our equipment is top of the range, thanks to a mixture of sponsorship and a policy of using the best to ensure safety and good experiences. How many companies do you know that let beginners use top of the range fibreglass sea kayaks and have dry suits when needed?
3) Winter and summer climbing courses have a ratio of 1 instructor to 2 students. It doesn't get better than that!
4) Our location is superb. We can follow the weather and are spoilt for choice with rivers. A beginner on a open canoe or kayaking course could be on a different river every day for a five day course. A climber can be on sea cliffs or in the heart of the mountains, all within easy reach for the optimum experience.
5) Our on-site facilities are second to none.
- A unique mountain biking training circuit. The trail itself, breaks into seven areas, each one having a certain theme concentrating on a particular riding skill and each one highlighting a different construction technique. It has been identified as a role model for future projects.
- Rolling Pool, with underwater window for the instructor to see exactly what you are doing when you are learning to roll and vice versa. No goggles or air tanks required!
- Indoor climbing wall and bouldering area for you to train on. We also have an indoor dry tooling wall to master those tricky techniques without the distraction of 'big air with axes'!
- Lecture Theatre. Most evenings there are lectures and the theatre helps to do justice to all those inspirational photos. Beats a space on a bank wall any day.
- Sauna - nothing like unwinding in the luxury of heat and sweat!
- Bar - After a well earned delicious and hearty meal in our dinning room, you can mosey upstairs to the bar for a drink and/or game of pool. A great way to end the day.
We offer a hassle free all inclusive experience. You only need money for the bar and an evening meal if you arrive early the night before the course actually starts. Unlike some competitors all equipment, accommodation and food are included in the price as well as travel to and from the activity. We will even pick you and drop you off at the local station before and after your course.
Are we Value for Money?
Probably the most important question on this page! We are not a commercially driven organization. We run our courses on tight margins to make them as affordable as possible to as many people as possible to fulfill our role as a National Centre. Sportscotland invest in us to help us achieve this goal. Yes, we are here for YOU!
